What is a JoPad?

JoPads are washable sanitary towels made in Molly’s Sewing Unit in West Bengal, India. They are made by young women who are vulnerable to human traffickers. Earning a living helps them to stay safe and to support their families and members of their communities.

The production of JoPads is subsidised by donations. This makes JoPads affordable to girls and women who are unable to buy commercially produced sanitary protection. And, it enables the producers to be paid a decent wage.

The young women who join Molly’s Sewing Unit receive six months of free training in basic sewing and tailoring skills. After graduation, the students go on to produce JoPads and other garments.

Almost half of victims of human trafficking in India are from West Bengal.
